Along the Edges

On the Edges

June 17, 2017 By Shelly McNamara

They think there’s one straight line
That takes you down the middle
Of the road

What about the beauty, the excitement
That lies along the edges?

The center line – the straight line
Takes you to the places
You have already been

I invite you to explore the edges
To go outside the lines
To find the beauty
Not on the straight line
To find the beauty that comes
From exploring and living on the edges

This is where I have found the insight
On the edges
Not down the middle of the road

Deep Insight

June 16, 2017 By Shelly McNamara

Deep insight is rarely
Born out of privilege

It comes from
Experiencing the pain
Caused by others – or
The misgivings of life

Listen closely
Listen intently
To the voices
Of those who cry out

They sit along the edges
Outside the circle
Of privilege

Deep insight they bring
How we can all
Be more human
More loving – more giving

Deep insight is rarely
Born out of privilege
